Tunnel

Room 1

A selection of unique lamps.

This room is very long, has a low ceiling and tight sides. See it as a perfectly symmetric tunnel, in which as you progress, encounter at regular intervals, lamps placed on the ground. Sometimes there's one on the right, sometimes there's one on the left.

But why go through it?

What's at the end of this tunnel?

I mean, there's only one way to find out.

In the meantime, let's analyze some of the pieces we've encountered so far.

Note

The lamps I'm about to show you do not follow a specific theme. Rather they're just pleasing, or interesting pieces I found. Enjoy.

Lamp 1

This was the first lamp we encountered. We heard a sizzle at our feet and as if on cue, when we looked down, it lit up. After a few minutes to let me gather some courage, I approached it and closed my eyes tightly before poking it. I just had to. To my relief, the grey matter its base was made of had solidified. Pretty sure it was foam. Honestly, the only reason I'd buy this is its uniqueness and the perplexity it would cause the people visiting my dwelling place...

There, he creates contemporary home decor with a childlike spirit and a tongue-in-cheek attitude.

I think I see another one

Lamp 2

Stubbed my toe, swore, and tripped on this one. Took us a while to get to this lamp. A good five-minute walk from the last one. It's heavy, I see the base is made of Carrara marble - Luna marble to the Romans. It's a type of white, blue-grey marble popular for use in sculpture and building decor. It has been quarried since Roman times in the mountains just outside the city of Carrara in Italy. I knocked on its shade and can conclude it's made of metal. Has a thick plaque of glass as an underside too. I like it, certainly a timeless piece.

Charismatic...

Next lamp ahead!

Lamp 3

I really like this next one. Its design reminds me of old, old schools. Very black and white movie, very World War I. I like how you can place a pen or two on it. This way you don't have to keep looking for it. - Wow, just found out it was designed in 1930. The more you know... Here it is:

Jean Prouvé, French architect and designer.

In front of the Maison Prouvé, a home he designed and assembled for his family in 1954. It is located on a hillside that he had acquired with his wife, Madeleine, overlooking Nancy, their home city in the Grand Est region of France. The house was sold to the city and is today maintained by the Musée des Beaux-Arts and open for guided tours every Saturday during the summer. This man was very famous in his city, and his family was often recognised in the streets.

More light ahead

Lamp 4

This lamp fits the current setting we are in. It reminds me of an oil lamp, the customary form of lighting used by tunnellers back then. I believe it's meant to be used as bedside table lamp, since it's all small and cute. It has a cord (which is made of braided fabric - nice addition). It also has push button as a power switch on its base. It looks so nice, very retrofuturistic. Probably my favorite part about this piece. Not to mention it's all silver as well. Here it is:

Proposed high-speed ocean express as in the year 2000, made in 1931.

This is so cool and interesting I love this.

Let's keep walking.

Lamp 5

Pieces designed in older times are seriously starting to grow on me, especially ones made a bit before the mid-1900s. I don't know, maybe I haven't thought about it long enough, but now it fascinates me. It was a completely different setting, a different way to go about things. I think my fascination with World War II stories/old life stories is coming back to me. Used to avidly seek these books when I was younger. - Anyway, haha the lamp now. Beautiful this one. I'm not a fan of gold anything usually, but this I like. Very classy, vintage. Could picture this well in an old-fashioned office somewhere in Milano or London. And that push button is back again, what a fun working detail.

Poul Henningsen, Danish writer and architect.

"Poul Henningsen (1894–1967) was an influential Danish designer and cultural figure, best known for his groundbreaking work in lighting design. His enduring legacy is founded on the "PH Lamp" series, introduced in 1925, which revolutionized the way light is diffused in interiors (PH-lamp is a term used to design any lamp designed by Henningsen or specially his three-shade lamp series). Henningsen's meticulous attention to the quality of light and its effects on surroundings led to the creation of the iconic "Artichoke Lamp" (1958), a masterpiece of design that remains a symbol of sophistication and innovation."

Exit

Alright, we're done with this tunnel for today. We're going back.

Certainly more to see here.

Until then, take care.
