La bibliothèque
As soon as we entered this room, something was just… weird.
Chills.
It was a medium-sized, dark library. Room was square and filled with evenly placed bookshelves. We instantly shifted to very aware and quiet behavior. Like it was an unspoken rule.
Not even a few steps in and my forearm was pulled.
It was my friend, she hurriedly hid me with her behind a metal bookshelf. Short breath, I looked at the side of her face. Livid, almond eyes wide and tinted with something ominous. My heart... as I looked with her through the books.
It was there.
Something "live" was there.
Bodies were completely frozen. We couldn't even breathe.
Unaware of our presence, a lone figure sat hunched over a table, surrounded by stacks of dusty tomes. The only sound was the soft rustling of pages turning.
Seconds passed slowly. None of us dared to move. Our senses were so heightened...
All we can remember,
Is the smell of the old books our noses were stuffed into.
This wax holds their aroma.
Y'all must think I'm taking y'all for morons.
But this candle really is meant to evoke the scent of quality, velvety paper.

Notes
All scent blends carry three distinct notes. They are categorized into the top, middle (sometimes called “the heart”), and base notes which is also known as the “olfactory trifecta”. They all have distinct jobs and work together to create a complete fragrance or perfume. The top notes are the most fleeting in a scent and disappear quickly, it always makes the first impression. The middle and the base notes then work together to deepen the top note, creating a multidimensional of aroma before leaving a lasting impression.
Bibliothèque features fragrances in peach, plum, vanilla and patchouli. Exact notes are as follows:
Top: Plum, Cinnamon
Heart: Leather Accord, Violet
Base: Birch Woods, Patchouli, Vanilla
This candle has a complex, sophisticated scent.
Woody
Varying from silky and creamy to smoky and complex, woody notes add depth to frangrance. If you're trying to determine whether a scent is woody, look out for these notes: cedarwood, vetiver, patchouli, pine, oud, and sandalwood.
Patchouli; the essence of its leaves is what is used for fragrances.
Recyclable packaging
People like to keep Byredo's candle containers to hold things like brushes, pens, etc. as the minimal design is aesthetically pleasing and makes for a good addition in a modern decor. The vessel's material is thick, black smoked glass.
Burn time: 60h
The full size option of this candle (240g / 8.4 oz) can last up to 60 hours.
Medium Intensity
This candle's scent strenght. Though, Byredo candles are known to be quality, so expect a present smell.
Intimate diffusion
Effect of the black wax and vessel. Beautiful.
Tip
I often see candle people say to "trim the wick". Always thought this was some pure bullshit, but apparently it does make a difference long-term. Logically, your candle will indeed last longer if the burn is clean and even everytime. And it'll stay pretty through the entirety of its lifetime. Honestly, the only plausible reason I'd get a wick trimmer is for the fun of cutting the little wick every time.
Reviews overview
So, look, I just got done reading a bunch of excellent reviews for the Bibliothèque candle. Here's its rating on google:
Byredo is a serious fragrance brand, so you can comfortably, comfortably expect quality.
People seem to really, really enjoy the fragrance of this one. I notice it's frequently repeated that it's not overwhelming or cloying. Also, the uniqueness of the scent is mentioned.
Some people can genuinely feel the library, books... through this candle, some others don't necessarily - but I have to mention they're a minority.
It has such an intricate scent, that it is borderline impossible to describe. This candle is more than just a melted wax. It is an eccentric experience of aromatic fragrances.
To conclude
Taste is subjective. Though, for such a unique take, Byredo managed to put a significant amount of persons in agreement around this Bibliothèque odor. Intriguing. I like the idea of travelling to another, abstract place, through scent. Perfect gift for book lovers for sure. Linked it below.
Until then, take care.
Sheltered from the passage of time, libraries have the power to teleport us to a world in suspension. The velvety quality of the paper embodied in a touch of peach, plum and vanilla and the omnipresent patchouli like a backbone runs through the composition.
