So why even buy a hydrating toner?

The truth is you don't NEED a toner ya'll. It's just a nice way to get extra, and often "fancier" hydration because a lot of them add some nice ingreditents in their formulas that you won't always find in your normal moisturizer - and the fact that they're liquid, can be interesting for some skin types. Below, I wrote how having a hydrating toner can be interesting to the different skin types there are:

Dry/Sensitive

Hydrating toners work for all skin types but they're especially interesting to dry/sensitive skin. If you have very dry skin you KNOW how our skin drink up moisturizers and start drying up again soon after... So not only do we need a lot of hydration but a LONG-LASTING one at that. A hydrating toner is a good solution. Seal that that with your moisturizer and you're really good for the day. Also, dry skin often rhymes with redness. Hydrating toners often feature soothing and brightening ingredients. Stay around for the Milk Skin toner's feaures section below, solid.

Combo/Oily

Hydrating toners can also be beneficial to other skin types like combo/oily because they can be seen as water-based moisturizers - a good solution to get full hydration in a very lightweight manner, without adding oils to the skin. Because, yes, hydrating toners are oil-free. The tirtir one is meant to be used as an all-in-one moisturizer for combo-oily skin.

Acne-prone

A good hydrating toner will also suit acne-prone skin. Korean ones feature such gentle and lightweight formulas... By this I mean, you'll rarely find alcohol, silicone, paraben etc, in them - they're almost always hypoallergenic (no irritancy). They'll hydrate your skin without further irritation and will not clog your pores since they're usually lightweight and quick-absorbing.

Normal

Hydrating toners can also be good for normal skin. Good ones often feature nourishing, and a bunch of other interesting components (ex: niacinamide, rice extract... which brighten skin tone) that'll just enhance and help maintain good skin. So a lightweight & refreshing, hydration option.

TIRTIR's "Milk Skin Toner" features

Deep, long-lasting hydration

So, this toner will hydrate your skin. Hydration is what gives your skin a soft and elastic feel. Hydrating ingredients in skincare products attract water to the outermost layer of the skin. Has cica, glycerin & witch hazel in there for that. But it won't last long if the water is able to evaporate. This lead us to our next feature.

Deep moisturization

This toner guarantees a 24-hour moisture retention. It contains sodium hyaluronate and previously mentioned glycerin who are in charge of that. These two are humectants. Humectants are substances that draw water, either from the air or from deeper layers of the skin, into the outermost layer of the skin. They attract and bind moisture to the skin's surface. They're useful for adding hydration without feeling heavy or oily. Will leave you with a healthy and hydrated glow.

Brightening

This toner is infused with complexion-brightening ingredients. We have niacinamide and rice bran extract in there for that. Niacinamide is dermatologist-approved for brightening skin tone and anything rice is known to brighten/even. A korean beauty secret for you right there.

Soothing

Will calm irritated skin. There is a bunch of skin-soothing botanical components (ingredients that originate from plants) in this toner's recipe. There's cica, witch hazel, chamomile which are primarly known for their soothing properties.

Gentle formula

No alcohol, silicone, paraben, sulfate, EU-allergen free (cosmetic products supplied to the European Union markets require the presence of any of 26 substances recognized as allergenic to be indicated on the ingredients list, in addition to the use of the terms "parfum" or "aroma". These substances must be listed on the container or packaging when present at the following or greater levels: 0.001% in a leave-on cosmetic (e.g., cream, lotion, tonic)), and it's hypoallergenic (passed the skin irritation test - non-irritant).

Fungal acne safe

Doesn't contain mineral oil so won't trigger fungal acne. Mineral oil is an example of occlusive moisturizer. Vaseline is a common product made of a blend of mineral oils and waxes.

Acne-fighting

Glycyrrhiza glabra-root extract in there. A solid ingredient, has anti-inflammatory properties (help reduce skin redness and irritation) and antimicrobial properties that can help prevent and treat acne.

Wound-healing

Contains:

Centella asiatica extract: proven to facilitate the wound healing process.

Sodium hyaluronate: helps support proper wound healing

Panthenol: helps wounds heal faster

Anti-aging

Contains:

Ceramide: promotes anti-aging by keeping your skin moist and supple.

Adenosine: stimulates collagen production which helps preserve you skin's elasticity (meaning it's less prone to sagging)

Rich

This toner's consistency is less liquid that the average toner. It's rich. Stick around for the reviews overview section as this might not be the best option out there for some.

Packaging

Generous amount of product bottled in a matte glass vessel.

Reviews overview + takeaway

I read a lot of reviews for this toner. Won't waste your time, this one is a no-brainer for girls with dry skin. Not a single bad comment from girls with dry skin, so this is definitely hydrating no doubt about it, and the "milk" feel is comforting in a way as dry skin tends to be sensitive. Get it.

Same thing goes for girls with normal skin, they're pleased, enhances their skin. This toner is said to be glass skin in a bottle so there goes that.

For my girls with acne-prone skin, haven't seen much reviews from girls with this skin type but the few I've seen don't recommend it. Even though it was hydrating, they say it broke them out after a little while and seemed to clog their pores as well. So my acne-prone skin girls, avoiding this one would be best. Even more so if your skin is sensitive and tends to react easily. Though read further.

For my combo girls. Listen, I've seen a majority of good reviews, for this skin type. If I had to give a safe tip: use a small amount, as I've seen some combo girls say it was a bit too heavy for them. This toner helped with acne for some too.

And my oily girls. Look, I've seen girls with oily skin love it but others found it too heavy. So I'd say this one would be a bit of a gamble for y'all...

BUT TIRTIR recently came out with a light version of this toner FOR acne-prone/oily skins - more lightweight and quick-absorbing formula. This toner is a beast at hydration so a lighter version might be it. At the time I'm writing this (march 28th,2024) it's still new and hasn't got any reviews. I'll still leave it here, who knows maybe it's a banger TIRTIR is a serious korean brand after all.

Alright, here's the beast and its lighter version, (added the mini size of each as well)

Until then, take care.
